🐱 When Illness Arrives… and Your Cat Stays

A tribute to the quiet healers of the soul

I’ve been sick for over a week. It hasn’t been easy.

The fever comes and goes, my body tires quickly, and my mind… well, it fills with thoughts that sometimes weigh more than the symptoms.

In the midst of it all,

I’ve rediscovered something we often take for granted:

the unconditional love of a small, furry, silent being.

They say cats aren’t that affectionate.

That they’re independent, that they come and go as they please. But my cat has been my shadow ever since I returned from Nicaragua, right when my illness began.

Since then, she hasn’t left my side.

Unlike humans, she doesn’t ask how I’m feeling.

She doesn’t give me advice or worry about saying the right thing. She simply curls up beside me, nestles into the blanket that covers me, and stays.

Quiet, attentive, present.

Animals have that magical ability to simply be.

And that “being” says it all. Nothing more is needed.

🌙 There are nights when I wake up from pain or fever, and there she is.

Asleep beside me, as if she knows that her presence is more healing than any pill.

These past days have taught me that love doesn’t always come in grand gestures.

Sometimes, it comes in the form of a tender look, a soft purr, or a warm little body that curls up right where you need it most.

My cat hasn’t healed my body—but she has comforted my soul. And that counts too.
