I didn’t like my voice at first.
It wasn’t the tone or the volume.
It was the fact that I didn’t recognize it.
It didn’t sound like me.
Every time I heard a recording of my voice, something inside me shrank.
Until one day, I realized something:
It wasn’t my voice I didn’t like—it was myself.
In a recent class, we discussed this common experience.
Dr. Sackeim once did an experiment where people listened to a recording of their own voice after taking an intelligence test.
Those who were told they had done great on the test said their voice sounded amazing.
Those told they had done poorly said they hated how they sounded.
The study wasn’t just about voice perception—it was about self-esteem.
That’s when everything clicked for me.
Because for me, entering the world of voice-over wasn’t just about learning a new skill.
It became a form of therapy.
My voice became a mirror.
It reflected not only what I said, but what I had long hidden and was finally ready to release.
Today, after a long and beautiful journey, I can finally say:
I love my voice. Because I’ve also learned to love myself.
And you…
Have you embraced your voice yet?
