馃尡 When Trees Speak: The Story of a Garden That Still Wants to Live

In my mother’s backyard, two trees stand like silent guardians of time — one lemon, one orange.

Once lush, green, and generous, they now drop their leaves like whispers.

The leaves are yellow, heart-shaped, and fragile.

Their branches crack softly, as if trying to say something. Their bark, darkened and wounded, stares back at us like a witness to silent pain.

There was no fire. No storm that we know of. But something within them is calling for help.

馃崑 The Signs from a Tree’s Soul

Plants, like people, also fall ill. They change color, dry from within, or stop bearing fruit when something in their inner world —or surroundings— is not right.

The yellow, heart-shaped leaves scattered on the ground were our first clue.

The darkened trunk, scarred like a shadow of time, was the second.

The silence in their crown, almost no new shoots… confirmed what we feared: our trees are struggling.

馃尵 What Could Be Happening?

After observing closely, we realized several things can cause a tree to weaken — even without fire:

Fungal infections attacking from the roots or trunk.

Hidden pests boring into the wood.

Nutrient deficiencies, especially nitrogen or iron.

Unhealed wounds from past pruning or extreme climate changes.

And sometimes… just tired soil that’s lost its spirit.

馃挧 Loving Care is Also Medicine

You don’t have to be an expert to begin healing. All you need is attention, love, and consistency. Here’s what we’re doing:

1. Inspecting the trunk and roots for signs of rot or boring insects.

2. Applying a natural antifungal spray (baking soda + white soap + vegetable oil).

3. Painting the trunk with agricultural lime to protect it from sunburn and disease.

4. Rebuilding the soil with organic compost, worm castings, and clean wood ash.

5. Talking to the trees, naming them, thanking them. Because yes, even trees listen when the soul speaks.

馃尀 Because As Long As There Are Living Roots, There’s Hope

Our trees look tired, it’s true. But they are not dead. They still want to live. And if they’re given a chance, they’ll take it. They just need someone to believe in them again.

This is more than a gardening article.

It’s a reminder that anything wounded can heal.

That nature, like the human heart, can bloom again —

if cared for gently, without giving up.

Today we decided to name our trees: Hope and Renewal

And you — what are the names of the green guardians in your home?
